Job Opening: Staff Writer

home/school/life magazine is hiring a full-time staff writer.

This is a brand-new position focused on providing timely, reported features and department pieces for our quarterly magazine and blog. This is mainly a writing position, but it will also involve some copyediting and fact-checking. You’ll work closely with the editor of home/school/life to develop the lineup for each issue of the magazine, to research and write articles, and to fact-check and edit content before it goes to press.

The ideal candidate will

  • have experience in research- and interview-heavy journalism

  • be comfortable writing to a style guide

  • be able to carry a story from conception to final editing

  • be able to write short, front-of-book pieces, blog posts, and longer in-depth feature articles

  • request photos and fact-checking details from sources

  • be a quick, lively writer with an interest in education and parenting topics

  • be a self-motivated worker who can quickly pick up the style and voice of the magazine and work fairly independently

  • Experience or interest in homeschooling is a big plus!

home/school/life is based in Atlanta, but this position can be telecommuting. Normal office hours apply (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST) and are not usually flexible. Salary dependent on experience; four weeks paid vacation, plus summer Fridays and the month of August off.

home/school/life is a secular magazine that celebrates the diversity of the homeschool community.
